Protective gear: how to choose

Protective gear takes on what suffers most in the field and on the range: your head, eyes, hearing and joints. A helmet protects your head, glasses shield your eyes from dust, spent casings and glare, ear protection preserves your hearing during gunfire, and knee pads save you from impacts on the ground and concrete. Start your choice not with color but with the task: service, training, the range or hunting each call for a different set.

Helmets and covers

Among tactical helmets and covers there are two main cuts. FAST leaves the ears open, so it is convenient to fit active ear protection under it, and the side rails let you attach a headset or a light. MICH covers a larger area of the head and suits those who value coverage over mounted accessories. The shell is made of aramid or UHMWPE polyethylene. Helmet size is chosen by head circumference, and the cover is chosen to match the helmet type. A counterweight pouch for a battery balances a helmet with a device mounted at the front.

Tactical glasses

Open tactical glasses with temples are light and do not interfere with ear protection. Goggles with an elastic strap fit the face more snugly, protect better against dust and wind, and are appropriate in vehicles. Interchangeable polycarbonate lenses let you adapt to the lighting: dark for sun, yellow for dusk, clear for night. If you wear vision correction, look for a model with a prescription insert. Polarization reduces glare from water and glass.

Tactical ear protection

Active shooting ear protection muffles gunshots while amplifying quiet sounds: voices, footsteps, commands. The key decision is how it is worn: with a headband or on the helmet rails via an adapter. Low-profile cups interfere less with the rifle stock. A headset with a microphone is needed by those who work in a team on radio communication. For the range or hunting, ear protection without a microphone is enough.

Knee pads and elbow pads

This is the simplest tactical protection, without which your knees quickly make themselves felt in a firing position. When choosing knee and elbow protection, decide what is more comfortable for you. External models with hook-and-loop straps are worn over any trousers, but they can shift while running. Insert pads are unobtrusive and stay in place, but require trousers with special pockets.

How to build a kit

Build your tactical equipment as a system and check compatibility. The ear protection must fit on the helmet, the glasses' temples should not press under the cups, and the goggles should not butt against the helmet edge. Match the color to your uniform: olive, coyote, multicam or pixel. Prices start from 230 UAH, and we deliver across Ukraine.
