Multicam duffel bag: tactical duffels, duffel backpacks and transport bags
Multicam tactical duffel bag: what to consider when choosing
A Multicam duffel bag is chosen by those who want their gear on the road to match their field kit: military personnel before a rotation, soldiers heading to a training ground, hunters and hikers. This camouflage comes in classic duffel bags, duffel backpacks, transport bags and bag-backpacks: from compact ones for a few days to large sacks for a full personal kit. Prices range from 960 to 10 320 UAH.
What Multicam camouflage gives you and where it gets in the way
Multicam combines green, brown and sand shades, so its patches blend in on grass, on dry ground and against the background of vehicles. A Multicam bag blends with a uniform in the same camouflage and does not catch the eye when it stands near a position or in a truck bed. Dirt and dust are also less noticeable on a mottled pattern than on a plain fabric.
The flip side is that identical duffel bags are hard to tell apart during unloading. Label yours or attach a patch to it: for example, the US 150 L Cordura tactical duffel bag has a patch panel for attaching a patch. In civilian transport, camouflage attracts attention, so a plain color is more suitable for trips around the city.
Multicam shades from different manufacturers may differ slightly. For a duffel bag this is not critical, but if you are putting together a kit with a backpack and pouches, the difference will be noticeable when the items lie side by side.
Fabric and water protection
Most of these duffel bags have a water-repellent coating: they withstand rain, but they do not protect against a puddle or water on the floor of a truck bed. Only the US 160 L duffel bag has “waterproof” in its name. So with other models, pack items that are damaged by moisture in dry bags.
The same cut can come in different fabrics. The US 130 L tactical duffel bag is available in 600D Oxford and in denser 1000D Oxford. The second option withstands abrasion better if the bag is often dragged over concrete and metal. Printed camouflage on corners and folds fades over time. This does not affect the strength of the fabric, but the camouflage weakens on worn spots.
Which format to choose for the task
For a trip of a few days, a compact bag is enough. The Helikon-Tex Deployment Bag, 42 L, is made of Cordura 500D and, according to the manufacturer, weighs 530 g. If the load has to be carried on foot rather than just moved from a vehicle, a 35 L tactical duffel backpack in 600D Oxford is more convenient: it has soft adjustable straps and a carry handle.
For a rotation, take a large 120 L duffel backpack or a classic duffel bag of 130–160 L. When it is important to separate dirty footwear from clothing, look at the 45 L tactical bag-backpack with a shoe compartment. The most affordable models are made of Oxford, the more expensive ones of Cordura. If you do not need camouflage, browse all duffel bags and transport bags in other colors.
