Hiking seat pad for breaks, fishing and service

A seat pad is a small mat for sitting that separates you from cold stone, damp ground or a metal bench. During a short break, at an ice-fishing hole, in an ambush or on duty, your body quickly loses heat to the surface, and even a few minutes on bare ground is noticeable. A sit pad is light, so hikers, anglers, hunters and soldiers carry one when a full mat from sleeping pads for hiking and overnight stays is too much for a stop.

How to carry a seat pad so it is always at hand

The main advantage of a seat pad is that you don't have to take it out of your backpack. A model with a strap fastens at the waist and hangs behind you: sit down and it is already under you. The foam seat pad 29×34 cm and 2 cm thick works this way: the strap closes at the front with a side-release buckle, and a wide elastic band lets you adjust the girth to clothing of different thickness. Tactical seat pads with a belt strap come in multicam, pixel and olive.

If you wear a chest rig, MOLLE attachment is more convenient. The double tactical seat pad MM-14 in pixel camouflage clips to a battle belt or a regular belt and takes no space in your backpack. If you hike with a pack without a hip belt, you can attach the seat pad outside under the flap or straps.

Single or double: which to choose

A single foam seat pad is simple: nothing to unfold, it is light and handy for frequent short stops. Its size is enough to sit on, but too small to settle in for long or to put under your knees.

The double MM-14 model, folded 36×32 cm, unfolds to 36×65 cm, so you can sit on it with room to spare or kneel on it when working close to the ground. The Cordura cover is abrasion-resistant, and the two 8 mm foam inserts are easy to replace.
