Ubacs Suit and Pants: Who This Summer Set Is For

A summer tactical suit with an ubacs is a good fit for anyone who spends most of the day in body armor or a plate carrier: on duty, during training or at airsoft games. The ubacs is a combat shirt whose torso is made of light breathable jersey fabric and whose sleeves are made of a denser fabric. Under armor, the jersey does not bunch up into folds and chafes less. The sleeves stay outside and take the friction from branches, ground and gear. The pants in such a set are made to match the sleeves or in a thoughtful combination with them, so the ubacs and pants look like a single uniform rather than randomly picked items.

Long or Short Sleeve

A classic ubacs has a long sleeve. It usually has pockets, Velcro patches for insignia and adjustable cuffs, and the sleeve can be rolled up if needed. This option is versatile: in the morning and evening it covers your arms, and during the day they can be left bare. If you will only have one set, start with this one.

An ubacs with a short sleeve is more convenient on the training ground, during workouts and at the base, where you do not need to protect your arms from brush. Keep in mind that it has less room for patches and pockets. Elbow pads rub on bare skin, so this option is poorly suited for crawling. A sensible scheme is a long sleeve for missions and a short sleeve as a second set for hot days.

Pants with Knee Pads, Without Them, or Joggers

Pants with knee pads are needed by those who often kneel, lie down and crawl. Before buying, find out what kind they are. Removable inserts can be replaced with firmer ones or taken out when you walk around town. Sewn-in reinforcements will not get lost, but you cannot change the level of protection. Some models, such as the HAN WILD G2, also have elbow pads on the ubacs. This is handy if you do a lot of work lying down.

Pants without knee pads are lighter and quieter, so they are better suited for guard duty, moving around and everyday wear. When you need protection, you can put add-on knee pads over them.

Joggers are pants with cuffs at the bottom: they do not drag and do not catch on branches. However, the cuff fits tightly around the leg above the footwear and does not cover the shaft of high boots, so the look turns out sportier. Sets with joggers, for example from Call Dragon, are often complemented by a baseball cap in the same color.

Fabric and Color

Pants are mostly made of ripstop. There are also light nylon versions, such as the Yinren Neylon Balance. Ripstop holds up better in field conditions, while nylon dries faster after washing and rain.

Pay attention to two-color sets. In the names of the 4.5.0 Jaguar models, the two colors are given separated by a slash, for example Multicam / olive or coyote / pixel. The torso under body armor is not visible, so its color matters less than the color of the sleeves and pants. Without body armor, a two-color ubacs looks noticeably more motley, so for wearing without protection it is better to choose a solid-color set. Choose the color of the sleeves and pants to match your plate carrier and pouches: Multicam, pixel, A-TACS or solid olive and coyote. A black option is appropriate for security work and training. Blue is found, in particular, in the 4.5.0 Jaguar DSNS set.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can you wear an ubacs without body armor?

You can, but the shirt is designed specifically to be worn under protection. The jersey torso is thinner than the sleeves and holds up worse against friction from branches and backpack straps. For everyday wear without body armor, a solid-color ubacs with a long sleeve is more convenient.

Are knee pads included in the set?

It depends on the model. The "with knee pads" label in the name can mean either inserted protective elements or pockets for them. Before ordering, check in the description what exactly is included in the set and whether the inserts can be removed.
