Summer Tactical Suits: How to Choose a Set for the Hot Season

Summer tactical suits are made for service, training, airsoft and outdoor work in the warm season, when a regular uniform gets too hot. They differ from winter and demi-season models in lighter fabric, no insulation and a cut that lets the body cool down. Start with two questions: in what conditions you will wear the set, and whether you need a regulation uniform or comfortable field clothing is enough. This determines the composition of the set, the fabric and the camouflage.

Which Set Composition Suits You

The most versatile option is a UBACS shirt and pants. A UBACS has a thin breathable torso that heats up much less under body armor than a dense jacket, while sleeves made of tougher fabric protect against scratches and sun. Short-sleeve models are comfortable in the heat but leave your arms exposed when working in tree lines or around vehicles.

A "jacket or tunic + pants" set is a classic field uniform. It fits where body armor is not worn all the time, and the jacket serves as an outer layer against wind and insects. A T-shirt with pants, a polo with pants or a T-shirt with shorts are light sets for training, the range and everyday use, not for missions where your arms and legs need protection.

3-in-1 to 5-in-1 sets add a baseball cap, a light jacket or parka, and sometimes gloves and a belt to the suit. They are worth taking if you are building your kit from scratch and want one camouflage on all items. For active tasks, look for pants with knee pads or knee pad pockets: they protect your knees on hard ground.

Fabric: Ripstop, Twill, Cotton or Nylon

Ripstop is the most common choice for a field suit: a reinforcing grid of threads stops a small tear from spreading, so the clothing withstands crawling and bushes longer. Twill is denser and softer to the touch, but heavier and slower to dry.

Cotton sets feel pleasant in the heat and do not build up static, but wear out and fade faster. Stretch cotton and stretch nylon give with your movements, so they do not restrict you when squatting and climbing. Light nylon sets dry quickly and suit training and everyday wear.

Camouflage and Regulation Requirements

The regulation summer uniform of the Armed Forces of Ukraine is a field uniform in MM-14 pixel: for service, choose models labeled "regulation" in the name. Khyzhak camo is worn mainly in the National Guard of Ukraine. Multicam conceals well on mixed terrain and is popular both in units and among airsoft players.

Solid olive, coyote, black and gray are for the range, security work or civilian wear. There are also departmental options, for example the 4.5.0 Jaguar DSNS in navy blue. Before buying a uniform for service, check your unit's requirements for camouflage and cut.

How to Choose Size and Fit

Sizes are marked either with letters from S to 3XL or with numbers from 42 to 66, so compare your chest, waist and height with the size chart of the specific model. For larger builds, there are plus-size versions of the regulation uniform. Women should choose models with a dedicated women's cut, since a men's suit is usually tight in the hips and too large in the shoulders.

If you wear body armor, a load-bearing system or knee pads, leave room in the shoulders and knees. Check that the pants are long enough when squatting: pants that are too short will ride up above your boots.

Caring for a Summer Uniform

Wash the suit inside out in cool water without bleach so the camouflage keeps its color longer. Dry it in the shade: the pattern fades in direct sun. Do not iron synthetics and stretch fabrics with a hot iron, and remove knee pads and other inserts before washing.

For the cold season you will need winter tactical suits or softshell suits; for forests and mountains, look at Gorka suits and camouflage suits. We deliver across Ukraine.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which is better in summer: a UBACS or a jacket?

Under body armor a UBACS is better, because its torso is lighter and more breathable. A jacket is more suitable when you do not wear body armor all the time and need protection from wind.

Which fabric is the coolest for a tactical suit?

The coolest are light ripstop, cotton and thin nylon. Cotton feels pleasant on the skin but dries slower, while nylon dries quickly. Twill is heavier than the other options for hot weather.

How do I know a size will fit over body armor?

Compare your chest measurement with the model's size chart and add room for the thickness of the body armor. A UBACS should sit loosely in the shoulders and not ride up when you raise your arms. If you are between two sizes, people usually take the larger one for service.
