Tactical Goggles
Tactical goggles against dust, wind and debris
Tactical goggles enclose the eyes with a solid frame that fits against the face along the entire perimeter. This kind of tactical eye protection mask is chosen for trips into open terrain, shooting, airsoft and rides on vehicles, that is, anywhere there is a lot of dust and sand in the air. Prices range from 470 to 2 710 UAH.
How goggles differ from glasses with temples
Regular glasses rest on the ears and the bridge of the nose, so a gap remains between the lens and the face. Goggles have no such gap: far less sand, small debris and wind get into the eyes from the side and from below. That is why goggles are appropriate in windy weather, on open vehicles and near transport that kicks up dust.
The goggles are secured by an adjustable elastic strap. It is worn simply on the head or over a helmet. Some models come with a fabric cover in olive or coyote that goes over the goggles. The compact MIL-TEC is held by an elastic band, and its frame is lined on the inside with soft foam.
The downside of a tight fit is poorer air circulation, so the lens fogs up faster. If no dust is expected and lightness and ventilation matter more, take a look at all tactical glasses.
Which lens to choose and how to avoid fogging
A typical set includes three interchangeable lenses. The dark one is needed in bright sun, the yellow one boosts contrast at dusk and in fog, and the clear one is for night and indoors. The Swiss Eye F-TAC comes with a different set: clear, smoke and orange, and the manufacturer calls the goggles themselves ballistic. Changing lenses on the move is inconvenient, so install the one that suits most of your outing and keep the rest in the case.
Air exchange helps against fogging. The MIL-TEC has ventilation openings in the frame at the top and bottom for this purpose. The IDOGEAR has a built-in anti-fog fan, which comes in handy during intense movement. Do not wipe the inner side of the lens with a rough cloth, because you can scratch the lens.
Frequently asked questions
Are the goggles suitable for people who wear prescription glasses?
Yes, if the set includes a prescription insert. The Goliath Desert Storm has one. The lenses for the insert are made by an optician according to your prescription.
Can tactical goggles be worn over a helmet?
Yes, the strap is adjustable in length, so the goggles can be fixed both on the head and on a helmet. Before heading out, check that the frame does not press against the edge of the helmet or squeeze the bridge of the nose.
