Camping Lantern for Camp and Tent
Camping Lantern: Light for Camp and Tent
A camping lantern lights up the space around you, not just a spot in front of you: the table, the tent, the area by the fire. It stands on a surface or hangs up, so your hands stay free for cooking and setting up camp. It also helps at home during power outages. All models have a built-in battery and charge via USB, so no spare batteries are needed.
Which charging method to choose
For weekend trips, regular USB charging is enough: charge the lantern before you leave and top it up from an external battery if needed. For longer trips without an outlet, consider autonomous power. Skif Outdoor Light Rake has a hand-crank dynamo, so you have light even when everything else is drained.
Skif Outdoor Clover charges from a solar panel and hangs on a hook. However, a solar panel charges slowly and depends on the weather, so treat it as a supplement, not a replacement for a full charge before departure.
Do you need a power bank function
A power bank lantern gives charge to a phone or navigator via USB, so you carry one device instead of two. Light Shield, Bathyscaphe and Big Buster, for example, have this function. The downside is obvious: every phone charge shortens the lantern's run time. If the lantern is your only light for the night, do not drain it to zero for a smartphone.
What light you need
In a tent and over a table you need soft diffused light that does not dazzle. To see the path to the water or find something at a distance, you need a focused beam. Bathyscaphe combines a beam with side diffused light, and Big Buster offers a floodlight and a lamp. Skif Outdoor Gaper has a UV mode that lures mosquitoes into a zapper: handy for evening fishing, but do not consider it main lighting.
IPX4 protection means splash resistance: light rain will not harm the lantern, but do not leave it in a puddle. A common mistake is running a camping lantern at maximum all the time. In a cramped tent, medium mode is plenty and the charge lasts longer. Look for chairs, tables and tents in the camping gear category.
