Camping Tent for Outdoor Recreation and Fishing Trips
Camping tent for camping and fishing
A tent is for anyone who sleeps by the car, on a riverbank or at a camp with friends. On such trips, space, convenient entrances and quick setup matter more than minimal weight. So first decide how many people will sleep inside, where your gear will go and what weather you are heading into. Chairs, lanterns and other camping gear for your camp can be chosen separately.
How many places and entrances you need
The "3-person" label means three adults can lie side by side, while gear has to be kept by their feet. Two people with backpacks, or with a child, will be comfortable in a three-person tent. Three adults are better off with a model that has extra room: a 3–4-person tent measuring 200×200×130 cm or a 4-person MIL-TEC with a vestibule and a luggage compartment.
A second entrance means you don't have to climb over your neighbor, and two open entrances ventilate the tent better in hot weather. Skif Outdoor Adventure Auto I and Auto II have two entrances, while Adventure II has one. A vestibule, as on the Skif Outdoor Tendra, is a covered area in front of the entrance for shoes and wet clothes, so dirt stays out of the sleeping compartment.
Automatic or classic tent
An automatic tent pitches in minutes: the frame is already connected, and you just open it and secure it with pegs. This is handy if you arrive in the evening or often change camping spots. The downside is that a broken part of the mechanism is harder to replace in the field than an ordinary pole. According to its description, the Skif Outdoor Adventure Auto II can also be used as a sun shelter.
A classic dome takes longer to put up, but it is easier to repair. Pitch any new tent at home first to check that everything is included.
How a tent behaves in the rain
Fabric water resistance is stated in millimeters of water column: the higher the number, the heavier the rain it can withstand. The Skif Outdoor Tendra is rated at 3000 mm for the fly, the 4-person MIL-TEC at 1000 mm for the fly and 3000 mm for the floor, and the Skif Outdoor Adventure and Adventure Auto at 500 mm for the fly. According to their descriptions, Skif Outdoor models are designed for spring and summer, so they are not intended for winter camping.
The pitch matters as much as the fabric. Pitch it on higher ground, not in a hollow, lay plastic sheeting under the floor and tension the guy lines so the fly doesn't touch the inner walls. Don't close the vents completely: condensation forms even on a dry night.
