Black tactical suit: who it suits and what to consider

A black tactical suit is chosen for training, range shooting, work in the city and indoors, as well as for everyday wear in a military style. The solid dark color does not camouflage in the field, but it looks restrained and pairs easily with black plate carriers, pouches and footwear without matching shades. How black differs in wear

In the sun, black fabric heats up noticeably more than light and olive shades. So in summer a black tactical suit will be hotter than a camouflage one made of the same fabric. In hot weather, it is better to choose a lightweight set and take off the jacket if needed.

Dust, light lint, pet hair and salt stains from sweat show up well on black, so the suit will need brushing more often. On the other hand, grease and dirt stains are less visible on it than on light colors.

Which fabric to choose for your conditions

Ripstop is well suited to warm weather and the mild off-season: it lets air through, dries quickly and withstands active movement. The F16 model is stated to be a blend of polyester and cotton (65% and 35%). This blend feels pleasant against the skin, but cotton fades over time, and black gradually turns gray.

Softshell, as in the fleece-lined Vanguard or the Police model, is designed for cool autumn and spring: it retains warmth and blocks the wind. However, it is not winter clothing, and such a suit is not enough for frost. Sports suits made of French terry or with a hoodie are everyday clothing in a military style. They are comfortable for training and in the city, but do not protect against wind and rain, so they are not taken on field outings.

How to keep the black color rich

Black fabrics lose color faster than others, especially from hot water, harsh detergents and direct sunlight. Wash the suit inside out in cool water with a detergent for dark clothes, without bleach, and dry it in the shade. Wash a new item separately the first few times, because the dye may run.

If you buy a jacket or pants separately, keep in mind that the shade of black differs between fabrics and batches. In a ready-made set, both items are sewn from the same fabric, so the color matches.
