Multicam Tactical Backpack
Multicam tactical backpack: who this camouflage pattern suits
A Multicam backpack is chosen first of all by those who already have a uniform, plate carrier or pouches in this camouflage and want their gear to come together as a single kit. Multicam is designed as a universal pattern for mixed terrain: it combines green, brown and sandy tones, so it doesn't stand out in an open field, in a tree line, or on a dirt road in the off-season. It is a compromise: in a specific environment a narrowly specialized camouflage may conceal better, but Multicam rarely contrasts sharply with the background. For service, training exercises, hunting and hiking it is a reliable choice if you don't know in advance where you will end up.
Why the Multicam shade can vary
Different manufacturers print this pattern on different fabrics, and the result differs noticeably: in some cases green dominates, in others brown, and the contrast of the patches is not the same either. PVC-coated polyester, as in the MIL-TEC US Assault Pack Large, and oxford fabric, as in the "Tactical Backpack 35 L" model, hold dye and reflect light differently. That is why two backpacks in the same camouflage, placed side by side, can look different in color.
If matching your uniform matters to you, compare the shade in daylight rather than from photos: phone and monitor screens distort colors. Take fading into account as well. In the sun and after washing, camouflage gets lighter, so a new backpack next to a worn uniform will look brighter at first, but over time the difference shrinks.
A separate nuance concerns Laser Cut models. The MOLLE slots break up the pattern with fine stripes, and from a distance such a panel looks slightly different from solid fabric. For concealment this is not critical, but it does affect the look of the kit.
How to put together a Multicam kit
The advantage of a single pattern is that pouches, the first aid kit and the backpack don't create mottled spots on your silhouette. Assault models of 10 L and 20 L with attachment to a plate carrier are logically chosen to go with body armor in the same camouflage, since they effectively become part of it. A medic should look at the "Tactical Backpack Medical". Before buying, check whether the interior layout fits your first aid kit.
Large frame backpacks with an aluminum frame are chosen mainly for rotations and long marches. There, matching camouflage is more a matter of a tidy kit than of necessity, so focus first of all on the frame, hip belt and volume.
Pay attention to the design as well. Some assault models have a US flag, others have a hook-and-loop panel for patches. A bright patch gives you away, so for combat missions a panel where you can attach your own patch or leave it empty is more convenient.
Common mistakes when choosing
The first mistake is buying a backpack and pouches from different manufacturers expecting a perfect match of shades. If this is important to you, select items together or at least compare them in person. The second mistake is assuming that camouflage conceals by itself. Shiny buckles, light straps and loose strap ends give away your silhouette faster than an unsuitable shade.
If color is not the main thing for you, take a look at tactical backpacks in other colors, for example olive or coyote.
FAQ
Can I wear a Multicam backpack with a pixel-pattern uniform?
You can, although the boundary between the two camouflages will be noticeable on your silhouette. Both patterns are designed for similar natural tones, so in the field the difference is less noticeable from a distance than up close. If a uniform look for your kit is important to you, it is better to choose a backpack that matches your uniform's camouflage.
How much does a Multicam tactical backpack cost?
Prices start at 1 170 UAH and go up to 5 120 UAH. The cost is influenced most by volume, the presence of an aluminum frame, fabric and hardware. Compact assault models are usually more affordable than large frame ones.
