CoolMax T-shirts for hot weather, duty and training

A tactical CoolMax T-shirt is made for people who move a lot and sweat: on missions, at the range, on a march or in the gym. The fabric pulls moisture away from the skin to the surface, where it evaporates quickly, so the garment does not stick to your back under body armor or a backpack. Here you will find only CoolMax products, with no cotton or other synthetic fabrics, so the choice comes down to cut, details and color.

T-shirt or polo: which to choose

A regular crew-neck T-shirt is the simplest option under a plate carrier: a smooth front with no seams or pockets does not press under the plate. A moisture-wicking T-shirt of this cut works both as a base layer under a shirt or combat shirt and as standalone clothing on a warm day.

A polo has a collar and usually Velcro panels on the chest and sleeves for patches, so it looks neater for duty in the city or on shift. Some models have side vents that give quick access to your belt. If you work under direct sun, look at a long-sleeve polo: it protects your arms from sunburn while the fabric stays light.

Keep in mind that a stiff Velcro panel on the chest under body armor can chafe and press. For long wear under a plate carrier, it is better to keep the polo for other tasks and wear a smooth model under armor.

Which details affect ventilation and comfort

Mesh CoolMax T-shirts let in even more air, so they are designed for the hottest days and intense exertion. The downside is that the mesh is thinner and snags more easily on gear and branches. A compromise is mesh inserts only in the areas that sweat the most. For example, in the Yinren Raptor the mesh is placed under the arms, the sleeves have Velcro panels for patches, and the chest has a mount for glasses.

Women should look at a dedicated women's cut with side panels: it fits the figure better than a men's model one size smaller. A T-shirt with a stand-up collar offers some protection for the neck from the sun and backpack straps.

Care and the limits of synthetics

CoolMax is a polyester fiber; for example, the T-shirt with the "Infantry" print is stated to be 100% polyester. Wash such items in warm, not hot, water and without fabric softener: it clogs the fiber structure and reduces moisture wicking. Dry them away from radiators and without a hot dryer.

The main limitation is that synthetics melt from open flame and sparks, so near a campfire, a stove or equipment that gets very hot, cotton clothing is safer. In the cold, a wet T-shirt also loses heat quickly, so in winter it is worn only as a first layer under insulation.

Prints on such T-shirts are applied in different ways. The "Always Loyal" model is stated to use water-based ink that penetrates the fibers, so the design does not crack after washing. Even so, it is better to wash a printed T-shirt inside out.

Frequently asked questions

Are CoolMax and CoolPass the same fabric?

No, they are different fabrics with different structures. Here you will find only CoolMax products, so before buying similar models elsewhere, check the material in the name and specifications.

How do I choose a size?

Compare your measurements with the size chart of the specific model: some use letter sizes, others numeric. If you plan to wear the T-shirt under body armor, do not take it too large, because folds in the fabric will chafe.

How much does a CoolMax T-shirt cost?

Prices range from 290 to 920 UAH. The cost depends on the cut, the presence of Velcro panels and mesh, and the print or embroidery.
