Multicam Summer Pants
Multicam summer pants: how to choose for your needs
Multicam blends khaki, green, brown and beige, so it breaks up your silhouette well against a mixed background: grass, bushes, dry soil, dust. Summer tactical pants in this camouflage are chosen for service under a plate carrier, for the training ground and for drills. They are also worn in the city with a plain T-shirt, since the pattern is subdued and doesn't look too "military". Prices range from 840 to 2 670 UAH, and the difference mostly comes down to fabric and cut, covered below.
Where Multicam camouflages well and what to pair it with
Multicam was designed as a universal camouflage. It works best where the background is uneven: tree lines, fields with scorched grass, transitional seasons. In thick, lush greenery in early summer it can look lighter than its surroundings. In summer this isn't critical, because by the end of the season the vegetation dries out and the pattern blends into the terrain.
When putting together a kit, keep in mind that different manufacturers print Multicam differently, and the shades can vary noticeably. So it's better to take the top from the same manufacturer or choose a solid color: olive and coyote pair with Multicam without any problems.
Which fabric is best for hot weather
For summer, three things matter most: the fabric should breathe, dry quickly and not restrict movement. The lightest option is stretch nylon. Pants such as the R&M Cayman made of stretch nylon or the Nylon Balance models stretch well and dry quickly after rain or washing. They are convenient when you squat, climb and run a lot.
Ripstop is chosen by those who need durability. Its reinforced thread keeps a small puncture or cut from spreading, so such pants hold up longer against brush and thorns. Examples are the Patriot or the Caiman Hetman. Cotton and poplin feel nicer against the skin and let air through well, but they dry more slowly and wrinkle faster. For everyday wear in the city and on the training ground this is a good choice. If you work on your knees a lot, look at models with reinforced knees and seat: these are the areas that wear out first.
Joggers or straight fit, and how to avoid choosing the wrong size
Joggers have cuffs at the bottom. Grass and sand don't get packed in, the legs don't snag, so they are convenient for training and for wearing in the city with sneakers. A straight fit is more familiar for wearing with boots. On some models the leg hem is adjustable with soft hook-and-loop straps, so you can pull the pants up over your footwear.
Sizes are given in two systems, and it is worth checking this before ordering. A designation like 32/34 is waist circumference and leg length in inches, while 46–56 is the usual Ukrainian size chart. Most summer models have an elastic waistband and belt loops, so a belt makes up for a small difference at the waist. Choose the length precisely, especially for a straight fit. Frequently asked questions
Does Multicam fade in the sun?
Yes, over time any printed camouflage fades, and in summer it happens faster. To extend the life of the pattern, wash the pants inside out in cool water without bleach and dry them in the shade. Synthetics usually hold color better than cotton.
Which Multicam pants are the lightest for hot weather?
The lightest feeling are models made of thin stretch nylon and poplin joggers. Nylon dries faster, while poplin is nicer against the skin. Ripstop is slightly denser but more durable.
Are such pants suitable for the city?
Yes, if you pair them with a solid-color top in olive, beige or gray. For everyday wear, joggers or cotton models are more comfortable. They look less overtly tactical and are comfortable in hot weather.
