Tactical Cotton Socks
Tactical cotton socks: who they are for
Cotton socks are chosen by people who feel uncomfortable in pure synthetics and whose skin itches from wool: for daily service, training, and work on your feet in combat boots or trekking boots. Cotton is soft, pleasant against the skin and absorbs sweat well. At the same time, in tactical models it is blended with polyamide and elastane so the pair keeps its shape and wears through more slowly. Prices range from 20 to 275 UAH.
How tactical cotton socks differ from regular ones
An everyday cotton sock stretches after a few hours in footwear, slips down and bunches up under the heel β which is where blisters on the march come from. Cotton socks made for service are built differently: polyamide reinforces the heel and toe, the areas that rub against the footwear the most, while elastane and an arch band hold the sock in place. For example, the "Gloria" model is stated to be 70% cotton, 25% polyamide and 5% elastane, and the winter "Basic" socks are 78% cotton, 17% polyamide and 5% elastane.
The higher the share of cotton, the softer the pair feels to the touch, but the more slowly it dries. More polyamide, on the contrary, means higher wear resistance. That is why for long outings a composition with a noticeable share of synthetics is more suitable, while for everyday wear a softer one is better.
How to choose a pair for the season and footwear
Summer models are thinner, with a ventilation mesh on the instep and above the toes, so they make the foot sweat less. "Gloria" and "Basic" come in low and high summer versions: low ones for light sneakers, high ones for combat boots so the boot shaft does not chafe the ankle. Mid-season socks are denser and designed for cool weather.
Winter pairs come in ribbed or terry versions: the looped texture inside traps heat, and the double cuff keeps the sock from slipping down. Keep in mind that wet cotton quickly loses heat, so after a sweaty march or before a long stay in the cold, change into a dry spare pair. Choose tactical socks with a coat of arms, such as MiLENA, by the same criteria: the coat of arms is a decorative identifying element and does not affect warmth or wear resistance.
Size and care
For "Gloria" and "Basic", the size chart covers options from 35-37 to 46-48. Go by your foot size, not your shoe size: an oversized sock bunches up, while one that is too small squeezes the toes and wears out faster. Wash pairs inside out and do not dry them on a radiator β under strong heat elastane loses its elasticity and the cuff starts to slip.
Frequently asked questions
Are cotton socks suitable for winter?
Yes, if you choose a winter model β ribbed or terry. They hold heat well while dry, so in severe frost or during prolonged immobility carry a spare pair. You will find more options by material and season among all tactical socks.
