MIL-TEC Pouches: Utility and Admin Pouches
MIL-TEC Pouch: An Organizer for Small Items and Documents
A MIL-TEC pouch is an auxiliary pocket for small items, documents and everyday things, not a magazine pouch or a first aid pouch. The German brand makes these organizers from durable polyester or nylon. They are chosen by those who need to organize the contents of a vest, belt or backpack. For other types, see the general category of tactical pouches.
How the Pouch Attaches: MOLLE, Hook-and-Loop or D-Ring
First decide what you will mount the pouch on. The Commando, Hextac and Molle Belt Office are MOLLE-compatible: they attach to the webbing of a vest, belt or backpack and do not dangle while you move. The Commando and Hextac also have a D-ring, handy for clipping on a carabiner.
The Multi Purpose has a hook-and-loop panel on the back. So make sure your vest or the inside of your backpack has a matching panel, otherwise this pouch simply will have nothing to attach to.
Utility or Admin
MIL-TEC utility pouches are designed for items you need to grab quickly. The Commando has two compartments inside. On the Hextac, the main compartment closes with a double-sided zipper, and the front pocket has a flap with a buckle and hook-and-loop closure; its volume is adjustable with an elastic cord. The Multi Purpose is designed as an EDC pocket for a phone, keys or a wallet.
The Molle Belt Office admin pouch is an organizer for papers and stationery: a transparent document compartment, elastic loops for pens, open pockets and key hooks. On the front there is a hook-and-loop panel for a morale patch or badge. If you carry a notebook, maps and documents, it is more convenient than a utility pocket where small items get mixed together.
Color and Common Mistakes
The pouches come in two colors: olive and coyote. Choose the shade to match your vest or belt, because pockets in mismatched colors stand out noticeably on gear. A common mistake is counting on waterproofing. On the Commando and Hextac the polyester has a PVC coating, but important documents and electronics are best additionally protected with a bag during prolonged rain. Do not overfill the pouch: a zipper under constant strain wears out faster.
