Grenade Pouch: How to Choose a Reliable Model

A grenade pouch is for anyone who carries a grenade on a plate carrier, a chest rig or a belt and wants to draw it quickly, without the risk of losing it on the move. Unlike magazine pouches, capacity is not the point here — what matters is a precise fit for a single munition and a fastener you can open blind. The design determines whether the grenade stays in place while running and crawling, and how many seconds it takes to pull it out.

Flap or a strap with a fastex buckle?

The simplest option is a body that is open at the top, with the grenade held by a strap with a plastic fastex buckle. This fastener is easy to find by feel with a gloved hand, opens in one motion and makes almost no noise, so it suits those for whom speed is the priority.

A grenade pouch with a flap covers the top completely: less dirt, sand and twigs get inside. The flap usually closes with a fastex buckle too, and a strap with a buckle lets you adjust the length to a specific grenade. Some models add Velcro on the flap — it is extra retention, but hook-and-loop opens with a distinctive sound. If you work in wet and muddy conditions, choose a flap; if every second counts, choose an open top.

Details worth checking

Pay attention to the retention elastic inside or on the side of the body: it presses the grenade in place and keeps it from rattling around even when the fastener is open. A drainage grommet in the bottom is also useful — it lets out any water that gets inside. In most models the material is dense 1000D Cordura, resistant to abrasion, and the MOLLE strap attachment lets you mount the grenade holder pouch on any compatible panel.

Before heading out, be sure to check the fit for your specific grenade: a pouch that is too loose rattles and may lose it, one that is too tight keeps you from drawing it quickly. Some models are designed specifically for the RGD / F-1 — this is stated in the product name.

How to place the pouch on your gear

Mount the pouch where your hand reaches it without extra movement and where it does not get in the way of reaching magazines and the first-aid kit. Before use, practice drawing in gloves several times. Choose the color to match the rest of your kit: the most common are Multicam and coyote. Other tactical pouches to complete your setup can be found in the tactical pouches category.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a grenade pouch cost?

Prices range from 320 to 775 UAH. The cost depends on the material and design: a flap, an adjustable strap, a drainage hole.

Will a pouch fit any grenade?

Not always. Universal models with an adjustable strap and elastic adapt to different grenades, but for the RGD / F-1 it is better to choose a pouch where this type is explicitly stated. In other cases, check the fit in person.
