Multicam Tactical Shorts
Multicam tactical shorts for summer
Multicam shorts are usually bought by those who already have a combat shirt, T-shirt or plate carrier in this camouflage and want to keep a matching look in the heat: at the training ground, in camp, at the shooting range, on a hike or while fishing. Multicam blends green, brown and sand tones, so it stands out neither on grass nor on dry ground. Off duty, such shorts are easy to pair with a solid top in coyote or olive.
Why Multicam from different manufacturers looks different
Many factories reproduce the Multicam pattern, and their dyeing differs: some shorts are dominated by green, others by sand tones, and in some the spots are smaller or more contrasting. If you are buying shorts to go with a top you already have, compare photos in daylight and look at the overall tone, not just the pattern. Keep in mind that pure cotton fades in the sun more noticeably than ripstop with polyester, so a set made of different fabrics may drift apart in shade over time.
Which fabric is best for summer
The fabric determines how light the shorts will be, how quickly they dry after washing or rain, and how much friction against gear they can withstand.
| Fabric | What it offers | Who it suits |
|---|---|---|
| Ripstop | Holds its shape, resists snags, dries faster than pure cotton | Training ground, hiking, everyday wear |
| Thin cotton | Soft and pleasant against the skin, but wrinkles and takes longer to dry | Camp, city, leisure |
| Nylon | Light, stretchy, dries quickly (as stated for Yinren Summer) | Active training, near water |
| Stretch cotton | Elastic, does not restrict squats and wide strides | Shooting, exercises with lots of movement |
Thin models are lighter and more comfortable in the heat, but they wear through faster where the fabric rubs against a belt or pouches. If you wear shorts under a chest rig or often sit and kneel directly on the ground, look at reinforced versions such as Viking reinforced ripstop or Esdy with double patches on the wear areas.
Pockets, waistband and hardware: what you will really need
Hook-and-loop pockets open quickly but are noisy and collect grass seeds, while zippered pockets (for example, on the thighs of ADAMS) hold keys and documents more securely. Do not overload the thigh pockets with heavy items: in shorts they are not held against the leg by trouser fabric and slap against your legs when running.
Pay attention to the waistband. Wide belt loops, as on Yinren Summer, are designed for a tactical belt, the hook-and-loop waistband on Striker lets you quickly adjust the fit, and D-rings and MOLLE attachments will come in handy for a carabiner or a small pouch. If you do not wear a belt, look for a model with an adjustable waistband.
A separate cut is jogger shorts with cuffs: they look sportier and don't ride up when you squat.
How to choose the right size and length
Manufacturers mark sizes differently: with letters, domestic numbers or in inches, like Han Wild, where a letter equivalent is given next to the inch number. Do not convert your size out of habit from another brand β check your waist measurement against the specific model's product page. Models from Asian manufacturers are often cut smaller, so if in doubt it is worth taking a larger size.
Shorter shorts are freer in movement, while longer ones, down to the knee, protect the skin better from sun and grass and do not ride up when you squat. If you need a different camouflage or a solid color, browse all tactical shorts.
Frequently asked questions
How much do Multicam shorts cost?
Prices range from 590 to 1 730 UAH. Cheaper ones are simple cotton or ripstop models with a basic set of pockets. More expensive ones have stretch fabric, reinforcements, zippered pockets and MOLLE attachments.
Will the shorts match a combat shirt from another manufacturer?
They will, but the shade may differ slightly. For everyday wear and training this is not critical. If an exact match matters, choose the top and bottom from the same manufacturer.
How should I wash camouflage shorts so they fade more slowly?
Wash them inside out on a delicate cycle, without bleach or chlorine products. Dry them in the shade, not in direct sunlight. Fasten the hook-and-loop closures before washing so they do not catch on the fabric.
