Tactical Ripstop Shorts
Ripstop shorts for summer, duty and training
Tactical ripstop shorts are the choice for anyone who needs light summer clothing that can handle a training ground, yard work, a shooting range or a long trip. Fabric with a reinforcing grid withstands friction, frequent washing and active movement better than ordinary lightweight cotton. At the same time it stays thin, so these shorts don't weigh you down in the heat.
What ripstop gives you and what not to expect from it
Ripstop is not a separate material but a weaving method: a stronger thread is woven into the fabric at regular intervals, which creates a noticeable small square pattern. If the fabric catches on a branch or wire, this grid holds the tear back and keeps it from spreading quickly. However, a sharp edge or a strong jerk can still damage the fabric. Ripstop slows the spread of a tear, but it doesn't make shorts invulnerable.
The fiber composition differs between models, and it determines how the shorts feel on the body. For example, the model "Tactical ripstop shorts with hook-and-loop pockets, pixel" is listed as 70% cotton and 30% polyester, while the model "Tactical thin ripstop shorts, pixel" is 80% cotton and 20% polyester. More cotton means a softer, more breathable fabric. A larger share of synthetics adds wear resistance, and such fabric dries faster.
Thin, reinforced or joggers
Thin models are designed for hot days and long everyday wear: they are lighter and get in the way less when walking. Reinforced versions, such as Viking, have extra reinforcement in high-stress areas. They are worth choosing for intensive work, crawling and frequent field trips, where seams suffer first.
Jogger shorts have cuffs at the bottom of the legs. They don't ride up or snag, so they are convenient for training and running.
Pockets, fit and size
The number of pockets varies between models: there are five, six, and HAN WILD ripstop shorts have eight. Hook-and-loop pockets open quickly and hold small items securely, but the hook-and-loop fastener is noisy and collects dust. If silence matters to you, choose flaps with buttons. Don't overload the side pockets: heavy items pull down the thin fabric.
Cotton ripstop barely stretches, so shorts that are too tight restrict squatting and raising your leg. Choose a size with some room in the hips and rise. Size charts come in letter and numeric versions, and HAN WILD lists 34 (L), 36 (XL) and so on, so check the measurements, not just the letter. Most models are designed to be worn with a belt.
Prices range from 590 to 1 600 UAH. Cheaper models usually have a simpler cut and fewer pockets, while more expensive ones have reinforced seams, a more complex construction or branded tailoring. You'll find more selections among all tactical shorts.
Frequently asked questions
Can ripstop shorts be washed in a washing machine?
Yes, the fabric tolerates frequent washing well. The cotton in the blend may shrink slightly, so it's better to wash in cool water and not dry on a radiator. Camouflage keeps its color longer if you wash the shorts inside out.
How is ripstop different from ordinary cotton?
Ripstop is more tear-resistant thanks to its reinforcing grid. Ordinary cotton fabric of the same weight tears more easily when snagged. To the touch, ripstop is slightly denser, but it stays light.
Which ripstop shorts should I choose for everyday wear in the city?
For the city, thin straight-cut models or joggers are convenient. Solid colors, such as olive or black, are easier to pair with a regular T-shirt and sneakers than camouflage.
