R Military: Fleece, Softshell and Cold-Weather Tactical Clothing
R Military makes clothing for duty, field trips, hunting and fishing: fleece jackets, softshell jackets and insulated pants, thermal underwear, turtlenecks and winter jackets. For summer, there are moisture-wicking jersey T-shirts and compression rash guards, lightweight suits with a jacket and pants, and boonie hats with MOLLE.
Which Fleece Jacket to Choose
The classic R Military fleece jackets in 300 g/m² fleece have a full-length zip and hook-and-loop panels for patches, and in dry weather they work as outerwear. The Polartec 340 models are made of Polartec High Loft, with elbow patches and a collar in windproof fabric. Jackets with a sweat-wicking 3D mesh lining have olive waterproof panels on the shoulders and elbows.
There are also honeycomb-textured fleece jackets, the hooded G5 fleece and G10 microfleece, and women's models, including Navy Blue (DSNS). As a mid layer under softshell, fleece works better than a sweater: it is lighter and dries faster. Compare fleece jackets by weight, hood and pockets.
Fleece-Lined Softshell: Jacket and Pants
Fleece-lined R Military softshell jackets have a hood, chest and sleeve pockets and hook-and-loop patch panels. There are versions with rubberized zippers, women's cuts and plus sizes, so finding a softshell jacket for a non-standard build is easy.
They pair well with insulated pants made of softshell with a polyurethane membrane and fleece inside: the high rise keeps drafts off the lower back, and wide belt loops hold a tactical belt. For active movement, there are also Geckon Flex pants with stretch inserts and reinforced knees.
Base Layer and Freezing Weather
Under a uniform or body armor, wear thermal underwear: dense knit, cube-knit texture or fleece-backed, with women's sets available too. Turtlenecks come in microfleece, stretch knit and microdiving fabric, which is also used for helmet liner beanies. For winter, there are the Arctic 5.0 and Climashield jackets and the women's Termoloft, while sets of a softshell suit, turtleneck and fleece jacket are worn all together in the cold or in parts in milder weather.
