YAKEDA Plate Carrier: How to Choose a Model

A YAKEDA plate carrier suits both those who want a carrier that comes with pouches right away and those who build their own rig. The models differ less by color than by the set of pouches, the MOLLE design and the presence of a quick-release system. The plate carrier is sold without armor plates: it will only begin to protect you once you install plates of the appropriate size. Prices range from 3 350 to 4 830 UAH.

How the Models Differ

The model with three built-in pouches is available in multicam, coyote and olive. The descriptions of the coyote and olive versions state a four-point quick-release system on polymer buckles and laser-cut MOLLE. For the coyote version the seller also specifies a mesh spacer on the chest and back and a removable front flap with hook-and-loop fastening. For the multicam version a quick-release system is mentioned; check the product page for the remaining details.

The laser-cut version is designed for those who assemble their gear themselves: its description states 9 MOLLE pockets, so the placement of the pouches is easy to change. The quick-release model in multicam is valued above all for its system that lets you remove the gear quickly in an emergency.

The YAKEDA tactical plate carrier with pouches for an AK and a pistol has two compartments and comes fully equipped with magazine and pistol pouches. The YAKEDA 2.0 with three AK pouches is aimed at the rifleman who needs a ready supply of magazines on the chest; check its specifications for the other components.

What to Choose for Your Task

If your weapons are an AK and a pistol, it makes sense to take a model with pouches made specifically for them: you won't have to buy extra pouches and look for a place for them. If your gear set is still going to change, the laser-cut version is more convenient. The quick-release system deserves attention from those who work near water or in vehicles, where it is important to get free within seconds.

A typical mistake is choosing by color alone. Multicam, coyote and olive camouflage differently on different terrain, but functionality is determined by the configuration. Before you buy a YAKEDA plate carrier, compare it with other brands in the tactical plate carriers category.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does a YAKEDA plate carrier protect without plates?

No, on its own it does not protect against bullets and fragments. It is a carrier with pockets in which armor plates are installed, and these are purchased separately. Before buying, check the plate size against the specifications of the specific model.
