Multicam Plate Carrier: Sets with Pouches, Groin Protector and Quick Release
Multicam plate carrier: how to choose a configuration
A multicam plate carrier is a good fit if you already have a uniform and gear in this camouflage and want to put together a matching set. It also comes in handy if you are only starting to kit up and are choosing a versatile pattern. Prices range from 2 870 to 7 650 UAH, and the difference mostly depends on what is included in the set. The plate carrier is sold without armor plates and does not provide protection on its own: plates must be selected and purchased separately.
What to pair multicam with
Multicam is a camouflage for mixed terrain, so it is chosen when you do not know in advance where you will have to operate. It is important that the plate carrier does not stand out from the rest of your gear: a light patch against dark clothing defeats the camouflage.
Multicam shades can differ noticeably between manufacturers. If you plan to buy pouches separately, compare them in photos or in person. A set that already includes pouches removes this question at the purchase stage.
With pouches, with a groin protector, or without
A tactical multicam plate carrier comes in three main variants. Sets with three pouches are designed primarily for magazines. The descriptions of some of them state that each pouch holds one or two magazines and is removable thanks to the MOLLE attachment. This option is suitable if you need a minimal set and do not want to overpay for extras.
Sets with seven pouches provide a more complete kit right away. For example, the ISIK model includes a groin protector along with the seven pouches. There are also variants with a groin protector and a belly pouch. Try the plate carrier on with all the elements: check whether it is comfortable to sit, bend over and work with your hands.
If you already have your own pouches, it makes more sense to take a plate carrier without a set or with a minimal one. That way you will not pay for pouches that will go unused.
Laser-cut or classic MOLLE webbing
On classic models, MOLLE means sewn-on webbing straps to which any compatible pouch attaches. Such plate carriers are easier to reconfigure and add to.
The laser-cut variant, such as in the YAKEDA and EMR QR models, has panels with cut-out slots instead of sewn-on straps. They are flatter, snag less and look neater. However, before buying, make sure that your pouches fit such a panel snugly.
Quick release: two points or four
A quick release lets you remove the plate carrier fast if you need to help a wounded person or get rid of the weight. Check the number of release points only in the description of the specific model. For example, four points are specified for the ISIK with seven pouches, while one of the models has a two-point release. Four points usually let you detach the plate carrier from more sides, whereas a two-point system is simpler in design. If the number of points is not stated in the description, ask a manager.
Look for other colors and models in the plate carrier catalog.
Frequently asked questions
Does a plate carrier protect without armor plates?
No, without plates it is only a carrier for gear. Protection is provided by armor plates, which are inserted into the compartments at the front and back. Buy them separately, checking the size against the model description.
Is multicam the same across different manufacturers?
Not always. The shade and contrast of the pattern can differ, so it is best to buy pouches for the plate carrier as part of a set or compare them before purchase.
Multicam plate carrier: what should you check before buying?
First of all, check compatibility with your plates and the number of pouches in the set. Then pay attention to the panel type (laser-cut or webbing) and the number of quick-release points. Choose the characteristics that are directly stated in the model description, not general promises.
