Winter Multicam Suit: When This Camouflage Is the Right Choice

Multicam is chosen by those who need to stay inconspicuous in winter on mixed terrain: in tree lines, in fields with leftover grass, among bare trees and soaked ground. A winter tactical suit in this pattern combines warmth with camouflage that is not tied to a single landscape. That is why it is worn willingly both on duty and when hunting. But for it to really work, it helps to understand where multicam is appropriate and where it is not, and how to keep it looking good after a few seasons.

Where Multicam Conceals in Winter and Where It Gives You Away

The beige-brown base with green patches is designed for the transitional colors of nature. In Ukraine in winter, such conditions are common: snow lies in patches, while brown tones dominate in planted tree belts and on plowed fields. This is exactly where multicam has the advantage. On unbroken snow, however, any dark camouflage reads as a dark spot, so for an ambush in a white field you will need a camouflage cover over the suit.

If your unit requires the regulation pattern, it is better to look right away at a winter pixel suit. For the city, duty by vehicles or everyday wear, a winter olive uniform looks calmer: it stands out less outside the field.

Which Set Composition to Choose

Multicam has one annoying quirk: the shade differs noticeably between manufacturers. One gives more green, another more brown. So a jacket and pants from different batches side by side can look like two different camouflages. A set made from the same fabric removes this problem.

The simplest option is a jacket and pants. Often this is a jacket such as the Dragon or G8 together with G3 pants, which have removable knee pads for working from your knees. 3-in-1 sets with a combat shirt, like the Han Wild G8 or Idogear with an M-65 jacket, are convenient because under body armor you can stay in the combat shirt and put on the jacket at the rest stop. Military+ and Winters 8.0 sets also include footwear, a hat or a fleece sweater, so you get the whole kit in one pattern right away. For stationary work in the cold, pay attention to a bush jacket and pants: the longer top covers the lower back better.

As for insulation, the choice is the same as in other colors. Warmer but also more expensive suits with Omni-Heat lining are good for long hours in one place. Lighter fleece suits suit those who move a lot. Synthetic padding sits in the middle.

How to Keep the Camouflage After the Season

The multicam print gradually fades from sun and frequent washing, and the elbows, knees and cuffs lighten first. Wash the suit turned inside out, with zippers and Velcro fastened, and without detergents containing optical brighteners: they lighten the dye and make the fabric more visible in the infrared range. Wash only when really necessary, and it is better to brush off minor dirt after it dries.

Ripstop with a water-repellent coating, including Teflon, starts to soak through over time. This is a sign that the treatment has washed out and should be restored with a spray for membranes and tactical clothing. Then snow will roll off again instead of soaking into the fabric.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does a winter multicam suit cost?

Prices start from 2 810 UAH and go up to 8 080 UAH. Fleece and synthetic-padded suits usually cost less. More expensive models are those with Omni-Heat, as well as large sets with footwear and additional layers.

Can I buy pants or a jacket in multicam separately?

You can, but the shade may not match what you already have. If a uniform look matters, it is more reliable to take a ready-made set made from one fabric.

Can I rely on the temperature rating in the name?

Labels such as "down to -30" or "down to -35" are the manufacturer's guideline, not a guarantee. They are calculated for layered clothing and depend on how much you move. So under the suit you should still plan on thermal underwear and a warm mid layer.
