Winter pixel camo suit for service, hunting and work in the cold

A winter tactical suit in pixel camo is mostly chosen by those who need a uniform in the Ukrainian Armed Forces pattern: soldiers, volunteers, cadets. Hunters, anglers and outdoor service workers also wear it willingly, because this camouflage performs well in the forest and in the field. MM-14 pixel is a small digital pattern that breaks up the silhouette at a distance, so it works both on a position and in a tree line. Prices for such sets range from 1 170 to 5 330 UAH, and the difference comes down to the outer fabric, the insulation and what the set includes.

Where pixel works in winter and where it doesn't

A Ukrainian winter is mostly not white: thaws, wet snow, bare forest, dry reeds, soggy fields. Against this background, green-brown pixel camouflages just as well as in summer. On unbroken snow, however, any dark camouflage becomes a conspicuous patch, so for an ambush in a snowy field you will need to wear a white camouflage overall over the suit.

Keep in mind that the shade of pixel differs noticeably between manufacturers. Some make it in beige-green tones, like Call Dragon or the Dragon jacket with G3 pants, others in brown-beige, like Viking 5.0 or Nord Storm R Military. If uniformity matters in your unit, compare the tone with what your fellow soldiers already wear. It is also better to buy the jacket and pants as one set rather than mixing brands.

For the city, work or travel, pixel is often too much: it immediately reads as military clothing. If you need a more subdued option, take a look at olive winter tactical suits. Multicam, on the other hand, is chosen for mixed terrain.

What to look for in a pixel camo set

Start with the outer fabric. Ripstop and Taslan withstand brush and work in a trench, and with a water-repellent finish they don't fear wet snow. Softshell at 280 g/m², as in Viking, stretches and is quieter in motion. Bushlats made of raincoat fabric are a simple and durable option for guard duty.

Next is insulation. Sets with an Omni-Heat lining keep you warm without extra bulk, so it is easier to work in them while wearing body armor. Synthetic insulation is the most affordable choice: it is not afraid of moisture, but it is bulkier. Finally, fleece suits breathe well and suit active work better than standing still in the cold.

For service, the small details matter: an ID panel on the sleeve in Call Dragon, spots for patches and shoulder boards in Viking 5.0, an insulated waistband and suspenders in Nord Storm R Military. If you have to stand or sit in one place for a long time, pay attention to the bushlat and pants: a longer bushlat covers the lower back. A coverall, in turn, prevents drafts at the waist.

How to preserve the pattern and the water-repellent finish

The print on the fabric fades over time from frequent washing, hot water and direct sunlight. So before washing, turn the suit inside out and fasten all zippers. Do not use detergents with bleach: they lighten the pattern in patches. Shake off dried dirt first and remove it with a brush — that way the suit will need washing less often.

The water-repellent finish weakens after several washes, and the fabric starts to soak through. It can be restored with a spray for membrane and tactical clothing. Dry the suit in the shade, not in the sun, and the pixel will stay contrasty longer.

Frequently asked questions

Is the MM-14 pixel winter suit suitable for the Ukrainian Armed Forces?

Yes, MM-14 pixel is a camouflage adopted in the Ukrainian Armed Forces. At the same time, requirements for shade, cut and patches may differ between units. So it is worth checking them with your commander before buying.

Does the suit really keep you warm down to -30 or -35 °C?

These figures are a manufacturer's guideline, not a guarantee. They assume layering and movement. If you stand still for a long time, you can freeze even at much milder temperatures, so a warm base layer under the suit is always needed.

How much does a winter pixel uniform cost?

Prices start at 1 170 UAH and go up to 5 330 UAH. Cheaper sets are usually on synthetic insulation or fleece, more expensive ones on Omni-Heat and thermoloft or with an extended set of pieces. Other colors and set compositions can be viewed among all winter tactical suits.
