Snugpak Glacier 9 Black Jacket
When the temperature drops below zero and the route doesn't provide a return to warmth in the near future, you need a jacket that truly keeps you warm, not just looks wintery. It was for such conditions that the British brand Snugpak developed Glacier 9 - a model from the Softie series, which has long been the choice of military personnel, rangers and experienced outdoor enthusiasts.
The jacket is designed for situations where there is real stress and real cold. It is suitable for extended hunting or fishing trips in winter, for hiking routes in mountainous conditions, for tactical operations and outdoor duty. Glacier 9 works well as a standalone layer or as an intermediate layer under a membrane jacket if conditions are particularly harsh.
The outer fabric is Paratex Micro on a nylon base with water-repellent treatment. In the photo you can clearly see how the body and sleeves are covered with horizontal quilting, while the side and shoulder panels are made of fabric with a slightly different, more matte texture. This is not just aesthetics: different areas of the jacket have different functional loads, and the cut reflects this. The inner layer is Paratex Light, the insulation is Softie Premier, developed by Snugpak itself. Comfort temperature - down to -10°C, extreme - down to -15°C.
The hood with fleece lining and adjustable drawstring protects the head and neck. Cuffs are fixed with velcro, on the sides at the bottom - adjustable drawstrings for fit adjustment. The central YKK zipper is hidden by a protective flap. On the chest on the left is a vertical zippered pocket, hand pockets have fleece lining. An internal zippered pocket and ventilation holes under the armpits are provided.
The weight of the jacket in size M is 940 g. It packs compactly, which is convenient when carrying in a backpack.
Most insulated jackets in this price category either breathe poorly or don't hold moisture. Glacier 9 combines Softie Premier insulation - Snugpak's own development with proven thermal insulation indicators - with breathable outer material and ventilation under the armpits. This allows you to wear it in active mode without overheating. Fleece lining in the hood and hand pockets is a detail that is usually left only in premium models.
