Caiman Tactical Pants: Ukrainian Military Pants for Everyday Service

Caiman is a Ukrainian manufacturer that makes field pants designed for daily wear in the unit. There are no membranes or complex knee-pad systems here. Instead, you get a durable all-season-transitional model with reinforced seams, a comfortable waistband and enough pockets. That is why Caiman pants are often chosen as a main or spare pair: for training, for duty shifts, for positions in the off-season. Below we explain how the brand's versions differ and how to choose a size.

Which Version of Caiman Pants to Choose

The core of the line is ripstop made of 60% cotton and 40% polyester. There is more cotton here, so the fabric breathes and feels pleasant against the skin. Polyester adds wear resistance. The manufacturer calls the twill 2.0 pants simplified: this is a basic option without extras, for when you need an inexpensive spare pair. The twill stretch and dark gray models with elastane stand apart. They stretch when squatting and at a high step.

What the Construction of Caiman Pants Offers

Most models have elastic sewn into the waistband. In version 5.0 it lets the pants expand by about 10 cm in girth. This is handy if you wear thermal underwear beneath or your weight fluctuates a bit. However, the elastic does not replace a belt when you have pouches on your waist. There are six pockets plus one small one: the patch pockets on the thighs close with hook-and-loop fasteners, while the slash side pockets suit items you reach for often.

The points of greatest stress are stitched with bar tacks. The dark gray model has 24 of them, plus double knees and seat. These are the zones that wear through first when you sit on armor or drop to one knee. Hook-and-loop tabs at the bottom of the leg pull it in over the boot, so it does not snag or collect dirt.

Colors for Service and for the City

Some Caiman models are made for specific services. Predator is worn in the National Guard of Ukraine, and the blue and dark blue versions are designated for the State Emergency Service. Before buying such pants, check the uniform requirements in your unit, because the shade and pattern matter. For the field there is pixel, including the 5.0 pattern, and multicam. Olive, coyote, black and gray do not stand out in a civilian setting, so they suit both the city and trips out.

How to Read Caiman Sizes

The brand uses several size charts at once. It is most convenient when the size is given as 34/32 L: the first number is the waist circumference in inches, the second is the length, and the letter shows the equivalent in the letter-size chart. This way you can see how the model relates to your usual size. Ripstop versions come in a chart from 30/32 to 40/34. Some models come in letter sizes from XS to XXXXL or in domestic sizes 46–56. If your height is above average, look for the option with a length of 34.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can you wear Caiman pants in winter?

On their own they are demi-season. The manufacturer marks the dark gray ones as all-season, but they have no insulation. In the cold, wear thermal underwear under them, and for frost look for insulated models. See other brands in the tactical pants section.

How much do Caiman tactical pants cost?

Prices range from 970 to 2 210 UAH. The difference between models is small and depends on the fabric and version. Simplified twill models are usually cheaper, while models with elastane and double knees cost more.

How to care for Caiman ripstop pants?

Before washing, fasten the hook-and-loop closures, because open ones snag and pill the fabric. Due to the high share of cotton, the first hot wash may shrink the pants slightly. So it is better to wash at a moderate temperature and dry without a radiator.
