MM-14 Pixel Fleece Jackets
Pixel fleece jacket: warmth that matches your Armed Forces of Ukraine uniform
A pixel fleece is for those who wear a pixel field uniform and want the insulating layer to blend in with the rest of the kit. When the jacket is off or the fleece is worn instead of it, matching camouflage keeps a uniform look and avoids an extra patch of contrast against the background. If you are interested in fleeces in general, with other colors and brands, browse all fleece jackets. Prices for pixel models range from 910 to 1 780 UAH.
Will the pixel pattern on the fleece match your uniform
Most jackets are made in the MM-14 pattern, so they pair with a pixel uniform without any problems. However, keep in mind that on napped fleece the print looks softer and slightly blurrier than on the smooth fabric of a field jacket. In addition, shades differ between manufacturers and production batches. Do not expect a perfect tone match with your jacket, but the pattern and overall palette will be the same. A special case is the Military model with 3D mesh, where the MM-14 pixel is combined with olive. It is a good choice if your kit already includes olive elements.
For civilian life, pixel is too conspicuous. If you need a jacket for everyday wear, a gray fleece or a blue fleece jacket will look more low-key.
To keep the print from fading for longer, wash the jacket inside out on a gentle cycle, without bleach and at a low temperature. Dry it laid flat, away from radiators and open flame, because synthetic fleece shrinks and becomes compacted under strong heat.
Which fleece density and type you need
Classic fleece with a density of 280β300 g/mΒ² is the main option. Such a jacket retains warmth under a coat, and in cool, dry weather it can also be worn as an outer layer. But this fleece is not windproof, so on its own it will not save you in the wind.
This problem is solved by fleece with a membrane, as in the Gen II model. It blocks the wind and is better suited for wearing without a jacket, although it breathes slightly worse. By contrast, microfleece jackets such as the A5 are thinner and lighter. They are worn as a mid layer under body armor or a coat, when it is important not to overheat while moving. If you are looking for technical fleece with a better warmth-to-weight ratio, take a look at fleeces made of Polartec fabric.
Cut details worth checking
Jackets without a hood and with a stand-up collar are more comfortable under a helmet and plate carrier: nothing bunches up at the neck. Hooded models, such as the Gen4, keep you warm during a halt or in a dugout, and the elasticated hood fits snugly around the head.
If you wear a backpack or body armor, pay attention to a jacket with nylon inserts. Dense fabric on high-friction areas protects the fleece from pilling and wear. The Gen1 model has a short zipper, so it is pulled on over the head. A long zipper, on the other hand, lets you vent quickly and take the jacket off without removing your gear.
Velcro panels on the sleeves and chest let you reattach patches from your uniform. Sizes are marked in different ways: letters from S to 3XL or numbers from 42 to 64. Therefore, check the size chart of the specific model and allow some extra room for thermal underwear.
Frequently asked questions
Can I wear a pixel fleece instead of a jacket?
Yes, dense 300 g/mΒ² models are designed to be worn as an outer layer as well. In that case, though, it is better to choose fleece with a membrane, because regular fleece lets the wind through. In the rain, you should still cover the fleece with a jacket.
How is microfleece different from regular fleece?
Microfleece is thinner, lighter, and dries faster. It is not as warm as dense classic fleece, so it works best as a mid layer under outerwear.
What size should I take if I will wear the fleece under a jacket?
Take your usual size if only thin underwear goes under the fleece. Before buying, check whether the shoulders of your jacket have enough room for dense fleece. If you plan to wear several layers, check your chest circumference against the size chart and, if necessary, go up one size.
