Blue fleece for duty and everyday wear

A navy blue fleece jacket is needed first of all by those whose work uniform is in blue tones: rescuers, police officers, security guards, utility workers. At the same time, it is a calm city color that does not look military and goes easily with jeans or dark trousers. If the jacket is meant to be part of a uniform, check your service's requirements before buying regarding shade, patches and badges — the rules differ between units.

Will a blue fleece go with a duty uniform?

Blue from different manufacturers means different shades. Helikon-Tex labels its color as Navy Blue, Pentagon as Midnight Blue, and next to the uniform fabric they can look slightly different. So if you are choosing a jacket to go with an existing set, compare the shade with the set itself, not with a photo of another item.

The "SESU" label in a model name only means that the manufacturer designed it to be worn with a blue uniform, not that the item has any official status. However, such SESU fleece jackets usually have Velcro panels on the chest and sleeves for patches and ID badges. An interesting option is the reversible Grifon Oslo: it is blue on one side and black on the other, so one item covers both duty and days off.

Which fleece to choose: classic, microfleece or Polartec

Classic fleece with a density of 320 g/m² is a warm jacket for spring, autumn and winter, worn as a mid layer under a jacket. Thinner microfleece weighs less and does not bunch up under outerwear, so it is more comfortable during active movement and indoors. If the jacket often works as an outer layer, look at the Gen II model with a membrane: the 300 g/m² fleece here is complemented by a layer that holds back wind better.

Polartec fleece jackets deserve a separate mention. In the R Military Polartec 340 model, the base is Polartec High Loft 237 g/m², while the elbows, stand-up collar and placket are covered with a windproof nylon and elastane fabric that wears through less. For those who sweat heavily under body armor or a backpack, there is honeycomb-textured fleece, as in the Helikon-Tex Alpha Tactical: it is lighter and ventilates better.

Cut, details and care for a dark color

For duty, a full-length zipper is more convenient: the jacket is easy to take off without removing your gear. Side and chest zippered pockets keep small items from falling out, and an elastic hem adjusts the width and retains warmth. Shoulder inserts made of rain-jacket fabric protect the fleece from strap friction. Women should look at the model with an anatomical cut in sizes from XS to L. The remaining models have either a letter size range up to 3XL or a numeric one from 42 to 64 — check your size against the chart on the product page.

Navy blue fades over time from sun and frequent washing, so wash the jacket inside out in cool water, without bleach and with zippers and Velcro fastened — this way the fleece pills less. Dry it away from a radiator: high temperature damages the pile.

Frequently asked questions

Is a blue fleece the official uniform of SESU or the police?

No, these are navy blue fleece jackets that match a blue uniform. Whether a specific model can be worn as part of a uniform is decided by your unit's rules. Check them in advance, especially regarding patches.

Can I get a blue fleece for a regular wardrobe?

Yes, navy blue looks more restrained than camouflage and goes with civilian clothing. If the brand matters most to you, for example Helikon-Tex, take a look at Helikon-Tex fleece jackets in other colors.

How much does a blue fleece jacket cost?

Prices range from 1 080 to 2 430 UAH. Cheaper models are classic fleece without extra inserts, more expensive ones are Polartec, membrane or windproof overlays. You will find other colors and cuts among all fleece jackets.
